"Miss Asthma's "home" isn't much of a home, is it, Annie?" our Annie asks her younger self.
"It wouldn't be so bad if only she wasn't always telling me I'm an orphan and a charity girl," the younger Annie responds, "it makes me... hate her, and hate the "home," and hate myself, too."
Our Annie takes the younger Annie by the shoulder, and pulls her in for a sideways embrace. Looking at her with a sad fondness rooted in absolute recognition, she affirms, "I know."
